Yili Wen, Jiaxin Wang, Hongni Ye, Liang He, Min Fan, and Xin Tong, “‘I Want to Use Technology to Help Farmers in the Future’: Enhancing Children’s Understanding of Farming through Tangible User Interfaces and Embodied Interaction, in prep, to be submitted to DIS 2025
- Designed a game that combined tangible tools digital interface (Apple Watch) to enhance children's comprehension of farming, increase engagement, and influence their attitudes toward farming.
- Used tools such as Figma to design user flow, game user interface (UI), and game context; Measured the results of the study through both qualitative and quantitative research method; Conducted user testing and interviews with 15 children and their parents; Wrote the full paper as first author.
- Assisted this qualitative project focusing on understanding communication challenges between people who are deaf or hard of hearing and hearing people in emergency situations.
- Analyzed, qualitatively coded, and transcribed interviews with 12 deaf, hard-of-hearing, and 6 of their significant others; summarized the findings of the qualitative research and wrote the methodology section of the paper.
- Assisted this project to understand user preferences and perceptions of manual and machine-generated virtual pets through a system that can algorithmically generate pet appearances to provide insights into virtual pet design and AI generation and their impact on user experience.
- Analyzed, qualitatively coded, and transcribed 12 interviews; summarized findings from the qualitative research and wrote the results section of the paper.
Collaborated on a qualitative study of censorship on Chinese social media platforms to compare the differences in users' and platforms' understanding of censorship.
Collected data and information from social media platforms such as Douyin, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu and Toutiao; wrote a literature review and made a poster presentation.
Assisted this project by designing an accessible game controller to help people with upper limb motor disabilities have the opportunity to enjoy games using Xbox.
Using Arduino to code 9DoF IMU and muscle sensors and connect them to an Xbox adaptive game controller to detect motion and control the games.
Response in designing processes, executing, summarizing, and improving operational tasks for a portion of the commercialized technology team. Tasks included but were not limited to operating project management tools, maintaining knowledge repositories, and organizing technical sharing activities.
